Water Acre Cottages, 39 Drumfad Road, Drumfad, Millisle, Newtownards, Co Down, BT22 2JQ

This is a two-storey gabled house likely dating from the early 19th century, although it has been extensively modernised both internally and externally. It is situated on the north side of Drumfad Road, approximately two miles south of Millisle.

The front, south-facing facade features a centrally positioned gabled porch with a panelled and glazed door. To the left of the porch is a recently enlarged window with a modern frame, while to the right are three smaller, original windows also with modern frames. Above, two recently enlarged outer windows flank two smaller, original centre windows, all within modern frames. The gables are currently blank. Attached to the west gable, which has a rendered wall with an arched pedestrian entrance, is a further rendered wall. The rear of the house is dominated by a large, single-storey, flat-roofed extension, incorporating modern doors and windows to both the extension and the rear of the main house. The entire facade is finished with rough cast rendering. The pitched roof is covered in Bangor blue slates, with three rendered chimney stacks, and features uPVC rainwater goods.

A building is depicted on Ordnance Survey maps from 1833/4 and 1858-60, but it is not shown on the Dunbar estate map of 1797. This suggests the house may date to the early 1800s, although it is possible it originally began as a single-storey structure. The gabled porch, enlarged window openings, and rear extension were all added after 1973.
