Description
Hillside is a two-storey farm house built in 1889, exhibiting a mildly eclectic architectural style typical of that period. It is situated at the end of a lane on the west side of Ballyhaskin Road, approximately one and a quarter miles east of Carrowdore.
The front, or east, facade features a central, segmental arch-headed doorway, now enclosed within a modern glazed conservatory/porch with a curved roof. Flanking the porch are segmental arch-headed windows with sash frames containing horizontal glazing bars. These windows have decorative keystones and brackets at the cills. Three similar windows are positioned evenly spaced on the first floor, set within half-dormers lacking surrounds. The first floor windows sit on a cill course with brackets. The north gable has a window on both the ground and first floors, matching the design of the front windows. The south gable also has a window to each floor, similarly designed with modern frames.
A long, single-storey gabled return projects from the center of the rear, with the western portion serving as a store. Modern window and door openings are present on this return. Attached to the south facade of this return and to the rear of the main house is a large, single-storey extension with a flat roof and modern windows and a door.
The facade of the main house and part of the return are finished with lined render, incorporating chamfered quoins and a plinth. The extension is finished in rough cast. The roof of the main house is pitched and covered in asbestos slates, with an overhang at the gables, and incorporates two yellow brick chimneys. The roof of the return is finished with Bangor blue slates to the north and asbestos slates to the south, and features a tall concrete brick chimney. The rainwater goods are a mixture of cast iron and PVC.
A flat-roofed extension was added in 1977.
