Description
The property is a one and a half-storey Methodist manse, constructed in the 1870s and located in the centre of the small village of Glastry, within tree-lined grounds. A gabled half-dormer window was added to the front, and a rear return was added in the early to mid-20th century. The building now features modern aluminium window frames throughout and an enlarged opening in the northeast gable.
The northwest-facing front facade presents a timber-panelled front door with a plain fanlight, set within a chamfered reveal and approached by two steps. There are two-pane aluminium windows to either side of the door, with a matching window positioned above the door at the upper level, set within a large gabled half-dormer featuring decorative barges and a finial. A cill course and chamfered plinth run along the front and gables. The northeast gable has a window to the right on the ground floor, mirroring the front, and a large modern three-pane aluminium window to the left. Two windows are present at the upper level, similar to those on the front. The southwest gable has two ground-floor and two upper-level windows mirroring the configuration of the front facade. The southeast rear elevation incorporates a later full-height gabled return with a timber-glazed back door and a variety of aluminium windows. The entire facade of the house is finished with lined render and painted. The roofs are gabled and pitched, with decorative barges and finials to the gables, and eaves overhang. The roof is covered in Bangor blue slates. The main house’s roof features two yellow brick chimney stacks with dentilled corbelling near the centre. Modern PVC gutters and downspouts are installed. Small rubble-built outbuildings are located to the rear.
The manse was built in the late 1870s, with the return added in the early to mid-20th century. An interior fire in 1982 resulted in some damage, but many original details were preserved during the subsequent largely faithful restoration. The property’s ownership is vested in the Methodist Church.
