Description

Two storey gabled farmhouse located on the west side of Tullynagee Road, approximately 2.5 miles west of Ballygowan. The building is of possible pre-1833 origin but has been substantially altered and modernised, particularly in 1988–9 when it was comprehensively gutted and refitted.

The house is believed to have evolved from an original dwelling to the north, possibly originally one and a half storeys, with a former barn to the south that was incorporated into the dwelling. This history is suggested by the irregular window spacing on the south side.

The east-facing front facade is dominated by a large PVC conservatory containing a timber and glazed door positioned right of centre. To the left are two widely spaced PVC windows, and to the right is a single similar window. The first floor has four slightly smaller windows with matching PVC frames, with noticeably greater spacing between the first and second windows. The north gable contains a window on the ground floor right side and another on the first floor right side. The south gable has two windows on the first floor. The rear facade features a large single storey lean-to extension with three PVC windows to its rear face and a PVC door to the north. To the right of the extension is a large picture window at ground floor level and a smaller window at first floor level. Two large Velux windows are positioned to the rear.

The facade is finished in limestone chip dash with smooth cement render applied to wall edges, openings and as a recessed base. The roof is covered in Bangor blue slates with three relatively recent brick chimney stacks unevenly spaced. PVC rainwater goods are installed throughout.

A building stood on this site according to Ordnance Survey maps of 1834 and 1858. The valuation returns of 1834 show the property in the possession of either John or James Orr, who leased it from Reverend Mark Cassidy of Newtownards. By 1858 it was held by Gowan McCullagh, leasing from the representatives of Rowland Savage.
