Description
The main gateway to Killead Presbyterian churchyard together with flanking railings enclosing the east and north sides of the churchyard. Main gateway comprises a pair of wrought iron gates of scrolling design mounted on a pair of tall cast iron pillars. Pillars have moulded bases, stylised sunflower designs in recessed panels, and moulded caps with ball finials. Railings are of mainly plain pattern with decorative finials, but have elaborate scrolling designs at the stays; low plinth walls of basalt rubble surmounted by rendered copings of humped profile. The date ‘1902’ appears on an inscribed datestone next to the more northern gate pier. Stays inscribed ‘RIW Ltd’ on rear side. Railings abut a short rendered wall at the south-east corner of grounds; curve around north-east corner, and terminate at north-west corner in west boundary wall. SETTING: The gates and railings border the main road and a side road, set back from them by a public footpath. They enclose a churchyard which contains a church and a number of memorials set amongst grass and yew trees.
