15 Ballyarnott Road, Muckamore, Antrim, Co Antrim, BT41 4SD

This is a vernacular cottage, thought to have been built between 1800 and 1819. It appears on an Ordnance Survey map from 1832-3. Originally thatched, the cottage has undergone significant changes, losing many original features and much of its original character.

The building is a single-storey house with attic space, and has walls that are partly rendered and partly made of whitened rubble. The roof is now covered in concrete tiles, with two modern dormers. A small, projecting entrance porch has been added. Originally described as having harled and whitened walls, three sashed windows with vertical divisions, a panelled door with a fanlight above, the front wall is now rendered with a wet dash on a projecting, smooth rendered plinth. The roof features two rendered chimneys with some brickwork visible, as well as PVC rainwater goods. Most of the windows are modern timber casements, but one original rectangular timber sliding sash window remains, with a 4 over 4 pane design and horns. The right-hand gable is constructed of whitened basalt fieldstones. The rear elevation is smooth cement rendered, featuring red brickwork in the gable above a large rectangular opening. Timber bargeboards are present.

The cottage stands in a rural location, set well back from the road and facing away from it. It has a large, overgrown garden to the rear, and a yard to the front. The yard is partly cobbled and bordered on one side by one and two-storey outbuildings constructed from whitened basalt rubble with slated and corrugated iron roofs. A driveway approaches the property, flanked by old and new rubble stone piers.
