Description

Stonewell Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that has undergone some modifications. It is constructed from locally sourced stone that is cut, squared, and coursed, and features a thatched roof, with a hipped plain clay tiled roof on the eastern extension. The cottage is two stories tall with an attic and has four bays, with the two central bays being the oldest. The entrance is near the center, featuring a distorted opening beneath an exposed timber lintel. The windows include three and four-light casements with exposed timber lintels, except for the lower bay which has a steel casement window. The windows in bays two and three have ovolo mould wood frames, and bay two has an extended label over its lower window. There is also an attic casement window located on the west gable.
