Description
The Old Rectory is a former rectory now functioning as a private house. It dates from the early 18th century, with some earlier fragments. The building is constructed from locally sourced stone that is cut, squared, and coursed, featuring Ham stone dressings. It has a hipped Welsh slate roof with copings on the projecting gables and stone chimney stacks.
The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a five-bay facade where the outer bays slightly project. The central doorway features a six-flush panel door and two glazed panels, all set within a bolection mould architrave and topped by a curved pediment hood on console brackets, which includes arms in a cartouche, believed to be Sandys. The windows are three-light transitional types, combining ovolo moulded mullions and architraves, with most lights being leaded. There are also some old iron casement windows with catches and stops, many equipped with internal ferramenta, and blind windows at the upper levels in the outer bays.
Inside, the property includes window shutters, numerous six and eight panelled doors, though the staircase is likely from the early 20th century. There are some ceiling covings and a notable sun-room located at the southwest corner.
