Description
No. 67 Charlton Road is a toll house, now a residential house, dating from around 1800. It is constructed of limestone rubble with squared quoins, a brick chimney stack, and a sexpantile slate roof. The building exhibits Georgian Gothick features, though it has been modified. It is a single-storey structure with a basement at the rear and consists of two bays. The front has an angular bay with one sash window and exposed sash boxes on either side. There is a central pointed-arch doorway that has been blocked, along with a more recent square-headed opening to the left side that contains a half-glazed door. The hipped roof is divided into three sections at the front, creating an overhang over the bay that is supported by scrolled iron brackets. A chimney stack is located at the apex of the roof. Additionally, there is a flat roof extension at the rear. This building is part of the Shepton Mallet Turnpike Trust.
