Description
Charlton House is a country house set in landscaped grounds, built around 1810. It is constructed from Doulting ashlar and features a hipped slate roof with dormers and three ashlar stacks that have moulding around their base and apex. The house has an "L"-shaped plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and consists of six bays. The sash windows are framed in plain stone architraves with prominent lintels, and the jambs extend as vertical bands below the sill level.
A central flat-roofed porch has a moulded cornice and parapet, with a semi-circular headed door opening flanked by smaller arches. The inner doorway features a Caernarvon arch head, a half-glazed door, and a fanlight above. There is a moulded string course at the first-floor level, a moulded cornice, and a parapet with moulded coping.
At the rear, there is a 17th-century wing that is much restored. Inside, the house contains early 19th-century fireplaces in the rooms flanking the ground floor hall, as well as a staircase with cast iron balusters and a moulded wood handrail.
