Northbrook Farmhouse

Northbrook Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse, built before 1787, commissioned by J. E. Templar Esq. of Shapwick House. A dated watercolour of the property by D. Nattes of South Moulton is displayed in Shapwick Village Hall. The building features coursed and squared rubble, with a prominent garden front finished in Flemish bond red brick, freestone quoins, and freestone dressings. It has a hipped triple Roman tile roof, with brick stacks and a rubble stack topped with an ashlar cap.

The symmetrical frontage consists of two storeys and an attic, arranged in a 1:2:1 bay configuration, with the central bays stepping forward beneath a pedimented gable. The gable has moulded dressed stone coping and a poppy finial, while a moulded eaves band runs along the sides and across the face of the pediment. There is a blocked circular window in a moulded surround at the centre, and 4-pane sash windows set in moulded architraves. The central door opening features a similar surround with a triangular pediment and a 20th-century door. A large freestone tablet in the centre of the first floor has decayed text. To the right, there is a lean-to constructed of coursed and squared rubble.
