Description
Midway, which includes the former Post Office, is a house with origins dating back to the 16th century, although it has undergone significant alterations. The exterior features rendered (spatterdash) and whitened walls, a thatched roof with coping on the projecting gable, and brick chimney stacks at both ends. The building is two stories tall with five bays and irregular window arrangements, where the second bay has a gable. Most of the windows are modern casements with single horizontal glazing bars. There is a timber and tiled porch at the fourth bay. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to contain chamfered crossbeams with stepped run-out stops, a projecting stair turret with modern steps, four smoke-blackened jointed cruck trusses, and some framed partitions with wattle and daub infill.
