Description
No. 343 High Street is a cottage with origins dating back to the 16th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble and features a pointed ribbed metal sheet roof with a coped gable at the north end. The building has rendered brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle. It stands two stories tall and consists of three bays. The cottage has 19th-century small casement windows with three lights, except for the second bay, which has a plain boarded door set in a heavy wood frame. This door is topped by a chamfered cambered arch and is protected by a stone and tile porch. The interior has not been seen but is likely to have changed little since the 19th century. There are reports of roof trusses that may be re-using jointed crucks. The cottage is probably historically linked to No. 342, to which it is attached on the south side.
