Description

Japonica Cottage is a cottage that is part of a pair and has origins dating back to the 16th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble and is whitewashed, featuring ashlar quoins and copings. The roof is plain clay tile with a coped gable on the south side and has a brick chimney stack at one end. The cottage is single-storey with an attic and consists of three bays. It has casement windows with exposed timber lintels, and the upper windows in the first and third bays are set into raked dormers. There is a stone and tile porch from the 20th century located between the first and second bays. The interior has not been seen but is reported to include jointed cruck trusses and an altered fireplace, along with an old stair window at the rear. Japonica Cottage is attached on the north side to No. 343.
