Description

This building began as an inn, later adapted for use as a house and flats. It dates mainly from the 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The exterior is rendered and colourwashed, with some ashlar and random rubble visible at the rear. The roof is slate, with wide, projecting eaves. A concrete block and brick stack are also visible. The building is arranged in an "L" shape, with a two-storey section facing the street and a three-storey section to the rear. The front elevation is plain, featuring a central 16-pane sash window set flush to the wall, and a further 12-pane sash window on the ground floor. A central doorway has a half-glazed door and a wooden portico supported by paired square wooden columns fixed to the wall, with a small gable above. The central section of the front of the building slightly projects forward. A full-height projecting bow, constructed of ashlar and featuring a cornice and parapet, is present on the right return. This section has 20th-century anodized aluminium casement windows on each floor. The wing to the rear has sash windows with glazing bars in stone architraves.
