Description

Oakford House is an early 19th-century house, originally a single dwelling, now divided into two. It is located on the south side of St Mary’s Street in Nether Stowey. The house is colourwashed render, with a hipped slate roof, wide boxed eaves, and two brick stacks. It has two storeys and a two-by-one bay arrangement, with the bay to the right projecting. End pilasters are present on each side of the projecting bay, as well as between the bay sets. The windows are 9-pane sashes to the first floor and 12-pane sashes on the ground floor, each with a stopped label. A recessed entrance porch is centrally located, featuring a thin architrave and cornice supported by two pairs of slender columns; the inner door opening is elliptical-headed, with a reeded surround and paired half-glazed doors. To the left of the frontage is a short length of rubble walling, incorporating a doorway with a plank door, a stopped label above, and flat stone coping raised over the door head.
