Description

This is a late 18th-century house, now converted into flats, situated on the north side of St Mary’s Street in Nether Stowey. The house is constructed of random rubble, with more regular coursed and squared red sandstone rubble to the front facade. It has a double Roman tile roof with coped verges, and two 19th-century dormer windows with pent roofs. Two brick stacks are visible.

The building is two storeys and an attic, with three bays. A brick band runs along the first floor level. The windows are predominantly 16-pane sashes, although a 12-pane sash window is centrally located on the first floor. A small 8-pane casement window has been inserted between the second and third bays on the first floor. The central door opening is framed by a stone doorcase with an open pediment supported by Tuscan half-columns. The door is panelled, with six panels, and has a fanlight with radiating glazing bars above.

The right return features two semi-circular head sash windows on the first floor, with glazing bars detailing the heads in a Gothic style.
