Description
The Friends Meeting House is a Quaker meeting house built in 1850 on an earlier site, designed by J. Francis Cotterell of Bath. It is constructed of blue lias ashlar, with the plinth being quarry-faced and featuring rusticated quoins. The building has a moulded stone eaves cornice and a hipped slate roof with wide eaves. At the roof ridge, there is a louvred square cupola topped with a pyramidal lead capping and a spirelet. The structure is rectangular in plan with plain elevations and two storey frontages.
The entrance frontage consists of two sets of three bays, featuring tall 20-pane sash windows with cambered heads. The main door opening is situated between the bay sets and includes paired 2-panelled doors beneath a projecting Tuscan portico with a triangular pediment. To the right, there is another door opening with a 4-panelled door. The frontage facing High Street has 16-pane sash windows with cambered heads on both floors, along with an additional door opening that also has a 4-panelled door.
Inside, the simple layout is divided into two large rooms separated by a panelled divider, with the northern room featuring a bench and dado panelling.
