Description
The former toll gate and piers, likely from the 18th century, have been restored. The structure features a wooden six-barred gate supported by two sets of diagonal strengthening struts. The top bar is adorned with scrolled wrought-iron cresting. The piers are bulky and octagonal, with the left pier topped by wrought-iron capping that includes a hinge, which connects to the cresting above the gate. This toll gate was part of the Wells Turnpike Trust and was located at Mead Toll House on the road between Glastonbury and Street. A metal plaque on the south side provides historical details. The site is included primarily for its historical interest.
