Description
This is an 18th-century milestone made of Doulting stone, located southeast of Coachroad Farm. The pillar measures about 350 mm wide and 200 mm thick, but it is currently leaning at about a 45-degree angle and is partially buried. The inscription reads "II MILE From" referring to Redlynch House. This milestone is situated on a private coach road that connected Redlynch House, owned by Lord Ilchester in the 18th century, to Stourhead in Wiltshire, which belonged to the Hoares. This road was historically used by King George III when he frequently stayed at Redlynch on his way to Weymouth.
