Description
The Nicholas Billingsley tomb and railed enclosure is located in the churchyard, 14 metres north of the north-west corner of the north aisle of the Church of St James. This chest tomb and its enclosure date from the early 18th century and are dedicated to Nicholas Billingsley, who died in 1729, and his family. The tomb is constructed from Doulting ashlar and features a classic panelled shape with reeded pilasters between each panel, a pulvinated frieze, and a slightly bellied top. It is surrounded by cast iron railings, which have a shaped head on each rail and urn-capped standards.
