Description
Nelson Cottage and the attached cottage are two cottages that likely date from the 18th century. They have a rendered exterior and a slate roof, with brick stacks at the ends. The main facade, which faces the rear, is two storeys high with an attic and features three bays. The windows are chamfered, two-light, mullioned stone windows set in raised edge surrounds, each topped with a single angled label. The ground floor has mid-19th century windows that also have similar labels. There is a central door opening with a plank door and a 20th-century gabled and glazed porch. Each gable has a single light ovolo moulded attic window with a cornice. To the east, there is a lower gabled extension from the 19th century that has similar window details. This building was formerly a laundry cottage for the Hobhouse Estate at Ashwick Court, and there is a brick-lined cistern beneath the 19th-century kitchen extension to the north.
