Description
The double bridge, located about 70 metres southeast of the east outbuildings at Ven House, is likely from the 18th century. It is constructed from local stone that has been cut and squared, featuring ashlar dressings. The bridge has an 'L' shape and is positioned at the junction of two watercourses, with the main watercourse being conduited from this bridge for nearly 150 metres westwards under the Terrace and the Orangery. The major span of the bridge, which faces east, is one-sided, while the smaller span to the northeast is two-sided and set at right angles. Both spans feature segmental arches that are voussoired with keystones. The east side of the main bridge and the south side of the small bridge have an open balustrade, with the main bridge having three bays plus one bay for the smaller bridge. The three-bay section is topped with stone urn finials, and the north parapet of the smaller span is made of brickwork with a moulded stone capping. This bridge is part of the setting for an important country house.
