Description

Melstock and Claysgarth are a pair of cottages that form a row, reshaped in the 19th century from older properties. They are constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a clay double Roman tiled roof featuring simple gables and brick chimney stacks. The buildings are two storeys high, with Melstock having one bay and Claysgarth having three bays. Both cottages have small pane casement windows with two lights, set under timber lintels. There is a boarded entrance to the right of the first bay of Melstock and another entrance in the centre bay of Claysgarth. The front walls of both houses show signs of several blocked openings. The interiors have not been seen.
