Description
The gate piers and walls to the courtyard north of The Old Ship Aground in Minehead date from the early 18th century, with the walls likely added in the 19th century. The gate piers are made of painted ashlar and feature capping on the wall, while the walls themselves are constructed from rubblestone. The piers, which support double gates, have plinths, string courses, elaborate cornices, and swept caps topped with ball finials that include central dentilled bands. The 19th-century rubblestone walls extend 3 meters to the left, where they are lowered in the center and fitted with railings, and 10 meters to the right, featuring three panels of railings with chamfered capping.
