Description
Wheelwright's Cottage, also known as St James' House, is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from local stone that is cut and squared, with Bath stone dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate, featuring a stone ridge and bargeboarded gables, and there are brick chimney stacks at each end. The building has two storeys and three bays. The windows are margined sash windows with additional vertical glazing bars, set in plain surrounds. The central door has six panels and is located within a 20th-century timber porch, with a slim semi-circular headed window above it.
There are extensions from the 19th and 20th centuries to the north, one of which houses a garage, while another represents the former wheelwright's workshop. Inside, the cottage features Regency style doors and a simple staircase.
