Description

This is a cottage dating from the first half of the 18th century, originally accompanied by a smithy. It is situated in a significant location in the centre of the village. The cottage is constructed of local stone rubble with an undulating plain clay tile roof, coped gables, and stone end chimney stacks with brick caps. The building is two storeys high, with three bays. A single-storey smithy is located on the north-west corner, linking this property to Bridge Cottage. The cottage has 2-light casement windows with diamond leaded glass panes, set under older exposed timber lintels. A central boarded entrance door is within a heavy, slightly moulded frame. Internally, the cottage features stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, though it has been much modified. A brick wall, approximately 1 metre high, projects from the south-west corner, with stone coping extending along the roadside boundary as a low brick wall. This wall is capped by simple railings, with a central gate featuring bud finial standards and matching finials to the middle rail.
