Description
The Pitminster War Memorial is a stone cross built in the 1920s. It stands on a square, two-stepped base, with each corner featuring a cut-back design for a knotted ball sculpture. The cross shaft is square in shape with curved faces and is intricately carved with entasis. At the top, it is adorned with a wheel cross. The memorial is surrounded by a fence made of concrete posts and steel rails.
On the south face of the memorial, there is an inscription that honors the men of Pitminster who sacrificed their lives during the First World War from 1914 to 1919. The text reads: "O LORD OF LANDS TO THEE WE GIVE/ OUR PRAYER, OUR HOPES, OUR SERVICE FREE/ FOR THEE THY SONS SHALL NOBLY LIVE/ AND AT THY NEED SHALL DIE FOR THEE." The north face bears an inscription commemorating the parishioners of Pitminster and Angersleigh who lost their lives in the Second World War from 1939 to 1946.
