Description
The Pope monument, located 25 metres south of the nave of the Church of St. Leonard, is an 18th-century chest tomb made of dressed stone. It features an oblong chest resting on a buried plinth, with pilasters on the north and south sides that have cherubs in relief on colonnettes. The east and west ends have inscriptions set in shallow semi-circular-headed niches, also adorned with cherubs in relief; these inscriptions are much decayed, including one dedicated to John Pope. The tomb is topped with a hipped slab that has a moulded lower edge.
