Description
The John Pope monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St John the Baptist, approximately 10 metres south of the chancel. It commemorates John Pope, who died in 1813; his wife Mary, who died in 1808; their son Thomas Pope, who died in 1824; and his wife Joyse, who died in 1829. The tomb is made of sandstone and features a moulded plinth with fielded inscription panels on the sides, which are decorated with bellflower motifs and a ribbon tie at the top. There are plain fielded inscription panels at each end, and the capping stone has a moulded margin.
