Description
Sherford House is a 17th-century brick and roughcast house, dated 1679, located set back from a bend in St James Street. The building has been considerably altered over time. It features a central porch wing with a gable and bargeboards, along with carved spandrels and an old door. There are new wings added to the front and side of the house, with mostly pantile roofs, although the right side has old tiles. The windows are a mix of casement types. Inside, the ceilings on both the ground and first floors are decorated with Tudor roses and other isolated ornaments. A notable feature in the first-floor room is a rich plaster overmantel adorned with Jacobean ornament and the initials PLM along with the date 1679.
