Description
The Langport Royal British Legion Club is a former reading room and library built in 1833. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a Welsh slate roof with a shallow pitch, complemented by coped gables and a brick chimney stack. The building has two storeys and consists of two bays. It is distinguished by large 16-pane sash windows set in plain openings with voussoired flat arches. To the right of the second bay, there is a four-panel door in a matching opening, topped with a margined rectangular fanlight, and accessed by three steps. Although the interior has not been seen, the building was originally used by the Langport Scientific and Literary Association in 1861 and later housed a library that was revived by the Corporation in 1875.
