Description
The churchyard cross, dating from the 14th century, is located 5 metres south of the southeast corner of the Church of Saint John the Baptist in South Brewham. It is made of Doulting stone and features a base step that is approximately 1.2 metres square and mostly buried. The base block measures 750 mm square and stands about 500 mm high, with dressed top corners. The shaft is tapered and octagonal, measuring about 300 mm square at the base and reaching a height of about 2.5 metres. It ends in a finial, which is much eroded and likely originally served as a corbel for a carved top. This cross is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Somerset County No 356).
