Description

The Causeway Bridge at the east entrance to Stogursey Castle is a 14th-century structure currently undergoing restoration. It is built from blue lias and dressed stone, with the spandrals and upper courses renewed in random rubble, and it has no coping. The bridge features two pointed arches that span from the east bank over the moat, coming within about three meters of the entrance to the dwelling. Originally, there was a wooden drawbridge structure at this location, which is planned to be reconstructed. At the time of the survey in September 1983, the causeway was largely obscured by scaffolding.
