Description
Grove Place comprises nine cottages and a chapel, built in the early to mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed of painted rubble stone with a continuous slate roof, much of which has been tarred, and brick stacks marking the party walls and gable ends. The layout is double-depth, with three cottages to the left and six to the right, forming a right angle with the chapel at the corner. The cottages have a nine-window front, with each featuring a two-light window. Original 19th-century windows retain small multi-pane glazing. A 20th-century door is set within a lean-to porch. The chapel’s roof is crested slate and incorporates a small semicircular arched window above a gabled porch topped with a cross. A semi-elliptical gauged stone arch frames 20th-century doors. The interiors have not been inspected.
To the front left of the cottages is a short brick wall with a semicircular arch over the steps leading to the right. An outbuilding from the 19th century is attached to the rear of the cottages along the roadside. Built of snecked rubble stone with a pantile roof and a small stack on the left side, it features a timber lintel over wide planked doors, a single-light window to the right, and above, two doors leading to a loading bay.
