Description
Riverdale is a house located in Minehead, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It was refronted in the early 19th century and altered around 1990. The exterior features painted render, a double-pitched pantile roof, and brick stacks at the gable ends. The house has a two-unit through-passage plan that was remodeled in the early 19th century into a double-depth plan. It stands two storeys high with a symmetrical two-window range, a low parapet with stone coping, and long/short chamfered quoins. The windows and door are from the 20th century.
Inside, there are central cross-beams in the front rooms; the beam in the left room is chamfered, and the lintel over the open fire in the same room is also chamfered, while the beam in the right room has been rounded off. Part of the remaining stud wall at the rear left of the passage has plaster applied onto reeds, and the door at the rear of the passage is an 18th-century six-panel design. There are traces of former spiral stairs in both rear corners of the front block, suggesting that this building was once two cottages. Additionally, there are traces of thatch on the front block.
