Description

Nos. 7 and 8 Cefn Court are two cottages located at the rear of Nos. 20 and 22 Manor Road in Alcombe, Minehead. They date from the 16th or 17th century and were later altered in the early 19th century. The cottages are constructed of painted rubblestone, featuring thatched, slate, and double-Roman tile roofs, with a rendered ridge stack on the left and a brick stack on the right gable end. Each cottage has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a one-window range.

No. 7 is an early 19th-century extension with a slate roof, attached to the thatched rear left wing of No. 22 Manor Road. It has a 20th-century door close to the angle on the far left, accompanied by a 3-light casement window with leaded lights to the right. Above this, at eaves level, is a 2-light casement window, one of which has a leaded leaf.

No. 8 was originally a thatched gabled two-storey rear right wing of No. 20 Manor Road. It features 20th-century doors and small 19th-century casement windows, including a 2-light window in the centre and a single-light window to the right on the first floor of the gable end, with a 20th-century door to the left under a 20th-century gabled porch.

Inside No. 8, there is an open fire on the rear wall of the main room, with a spiral staircase to the right. The room has two stop-chamfered beams and a door in the right wall. The first floor features a jointed cruck with trenched purlins in the room above No. 20 Manor Road, although the member at the rear has been cut to enlarge the room.
