Description

South Lodge is an early 19th-century lodge, originally associated with Chapel Cleeve Manor. It was enlarged in the mid-20th century and is now a private dwelling. The lodge is constructed with a rendered stone exterior and has a thatched roof with overhanging eaves that form a verandah around a semi-circular block, with a half-hipped wing to the left. A large central brick stack is present. The plan is similar to that of Weacombe Lodge in West Quantoxhead, featuring a curved block to the right with a recessed centre and a half-hipped wing to the left. A 20th-century extension exists at the rear. The architectural style is picturesque. The lodge is single-storied and features two-light, Tudor-arch headed casements with marginal glazing bars. One casement is located to the left, with a blank tablet above it in the gable end. Three casements are situated in the curved wing, with a 20th-century door in the centre.
