The Barn 40 Metres South East Of Lower Farm

The Barn, located 40 metres southeast of Lower Farm, is a barn that likely dates from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a clay tile half hipped roof. The barn has nine bays, with the roof sloping down to a low level at the rear. There are two long slit windows, one positioned above the other, in bays 1, 2, 5, and 6. Bays 3 and 4 contain a three-centred brick arched doorway flanked by stepped buttresses. Bays 7, 8, and 9 are open and supported by a massive timber beam with a three-centre arch on the underside, resting on impost blocks. The roof structure includes queen post trusses with two purlins on each slope. To the west, there is a two-storey 19th-century extension, followed by a 20th-century rendered extension with a corrugated asbestos cement sheet roof. The barn forms a picturesque grouping with Lower Farmhouse.
