Description
Lower Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed from local stone that has been cut and squared, featuring a brick facade with Ham stone dressings above a high stone plinth. The roof is made of plain clay tiles and has coped gables, with brick chimney stacks at either end. The building has a double, parallel ridged roof and is two storeys high with attics and a partly exposed basement, comprising three bays.
The central entrance features a six-panel door with four glazed panels, set within a simple surround that has a flat stone hood supported by console brackets. The windows are three-light with flat beaded mullions and surrounds, although later sashes have been inserted. There are also three-light mullioned windows with ovolo moulding visible at the basement level. The south gables display prominent stepped stacks and a cast lead rainwater stackhead, while the north side has an old boarded door leading to the basement and gable attic windows on both sides. At the rear, there is a brick lean-to. The interior has not been seen.
