Description
The gazebo adjacent to the frontage of Edington House dates from around 1780, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble with freestone dressings, and features some rough plastering on the south face. The structure has rusticated alternating ashlar quoins and a cornice on the main front that ramps up to each side. An urn finial is located on the right, while the finial on the left is damaged and missing as of the last survey in October 1985. The gazebo has a pyramidal slate roof topped with a pineapple finial at the apex.
It is square in plan and exhibits a Classical style with later Gothick embellishments. The building stands two storeys tall, with a plain ground floor that includes a doorway with a plank door. The first floor is accessed by two flights of stone steps, which have an ornamental wrought-iron handrail and balustrading that has been partially re-set. The east side features a three-quarter glazed Gothick door with side-lights and some colored glass. On either side of this door are circular windows with freestone surrounds and radiating glazing, also with colored glass. The north and south faces have Gothick casements, while the west side has a plain casement. Inside, there is a fireplace.
