Description

Burnt House Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from around 1700, with alterations made in the late 18th century. There is a wing at right angles to the main frontage, which has a datestone reading "HG 1885", along with some minor 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed and squared rubble, with the left side facing the road rebuilt in concrete block. It features slate roofs with coped verges and brick stacks. The main portion has two late 18th-century hipped dormers with sash windows, while the wing has two similar 20th-century dormers. The overall layout forms an L-shape.

The house has a symmetrical frontage, is two storeys high with an attic, and consists of five bays. The first floor has two-light mullioned and transomed windows with iron casements and leaded lights. The ground floor features late 18th-century tripartite sash windows with glazing bars. A central panelled door is set in a chamfered freestone frame and is topped by a flat stone hood supported by cut stone brackets. The wing to the right of the main frontage is single storey with an attic, containing a casement window and a plank door on the ground floor.

Inside, there is a panelled room on the left side of the ground floor, dating from the early 18th century, along with an early 18th-century staircase. An attached low rubble wall runs along the roadside, curving at the entrance to the driveway. There is also a future attached section that bounds the forecourt, featuring coping and a pair of central gate piers with domed caps, along with a 19th-century wooden gate.
