Description
The stable block and other linked outbuildings east of Somerton Randle, along with an attached second house, were built around 1860. They are constructed from local lias stone that is squared and boasted, with lias and Ham stone dressings, and feature hipped Welsh slate roofs and stone chimney stacks. The buildings are arranged in a U-shape around a courtyard and are primarily single-storey with some attics, designed in a free style.
The central block has a west elevation with six bays, where bays three and four are raised, and bay two features a clock tower. The design includes a plinth, a band course, and a dentilled eaves course on the central portion. The segmental arched casement windows are set in chunky keystoned surrounds, with an attic window in bay three. Bay four has a tall semi-circular through archway. The clock tower is twice the height of the central block and has clock faces on the south and west sides, set in pedimented panels of a non-classical design, topped with an ogee conoid roof and a cast iron finial.
The return wings on the east side match the central block and develop into open sheds, with a link wall enclosing the courtyard. The stable block and outbuildings are linked by wing walls to Somerton Randle and the attached house on the east side, with which they share group value. No interiors have been seen.
