Description
Barren Down House is a house dating from around 1800, constructed of limestone rubble with some rendered areas and freestone detailing. It features a slate mansard roof with dormers and ashlar stacks. This late Georgian townhouse comprises two distinct sections. The main part has two bays and is two stories high with an attic, showcasing sash windows with glazing bars set in moulded architraves and a moulded eaves cornice. Attached to the left is a subsidiary block of lesser height, which is two stories tall and has six bays with flush-mounted sash windows also featuring glazing bars. There are two doorways; the main entrance on the left has a moulded stone architrave with a hood supported by shaped brackets, a decorated fanlight, and a six-panelled door. The secondary door on the right side has a plain surround.
