Description

This is a town house dating from around 1750 in Shepton Mallet. It is constructed with a rendered facade, dressed stone detailing, a pantile roof, and features one brick and one ashlar chimney stack. The building follows a "U" shape. It stands three storeys high with five bays. The central doorway is framed by a plain stone doorcase topped with a triangular pediment supported by three-quarter Tuscan columns, leading to a six-panelled door. Flanking the door are moulded stone architraves, each containing a central mullion and two twelve-light sash windows. The first and second floors are set back, with the projecting ground floor featuring a cornice and parapet. Ramped side walls extend to corner pilasters on either side. Sash windows of a similar design are found on the first and second floors. A moulded and dentilled cornice tops the building, leading to a parapet with moulded coping. The rear facade includes a tripartite window with a semi-circular head over the central light. The property is approached by rusticated gate piers and a low dwarf wall, with remnants of 18th-century iron railings.
