Description
Higher Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century with some modifications. It is built from local stone, featuring random rubble up to 1 metre high, and cut, squared, and coursed stone above that. The roof is covered with Bridgwater patent triple angle clay tiles, which have replaced the original thatch, and it has coped gables. The building is two storeys high with four bays. The front door, which is almost central, is from the early 20th century and is boarded in a heavy frame with a timber lintel above. There are three-light early 20th-century timber casement windows with exposed timber lintels. On the south side, there is a rear extension from the mid-19th century, which also features casement windows and has a separate entrance door with a galvanised wire lattice porch and an ogee sheet metal hood. Inside, the floor structure and roof timbers are largely unaltered, and there is a winding staircase with an 18th-century balustrade.
