Description

The front boundary wall, located about 4 metres south of The Dower House on Farm Street, is likely from the 18th century. It is constructed of ham stone ashlar and features moulded coping, standing approximately 1.5 metres high. The wall has returns that connect back to the corners of the house. In front of the porch, there are square gate piers with moulded plinths, a frieze band, and cornice-type caps topped with step and ball finials, reaching nearly 3 metres high overall. There is a pair of early 20th century timber gates with wrought-iron scroll panels. At the base of the wall, there is a slightly raised stone sett path, which is the only surviving length in the heart of the village. This boundary wall complements the setting of The Dower House and the village green, as it is prominently situated at one end.
