Description
The east side boundary wall, gateway, and carriage arch to The Dower House date from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some early 20th-century elements. Constructed from ham stone coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, the wall rises about 2.5 meters high and features angled coping. It begins at the south-east corner of The Dower House and includes a flat arched gateway set in a hollow-chamfered recess, topped with a quasi-gable and a boarded gate. Approximately 5 meters from the house is the carriage archway, which has a three-centre arch with moulded imposts and an architrave. Flanking Tuscan pilasters on plinths support a plain entablature and pediment, which features an oval plaque. The wrought iron gates, likely from the early 20th century, are adorned with circular rods, twist arrowheads on the bottom rail, and scroll decoration on the top rail. This structure enhances the setting of The Dower House and overlooks the village green.
