Description
College Farmhouse, originally two properties, dates from the 17th century and is situated on Queen Street in Tintinhull. The house is constructed primarily of Ham stone, with some coursed rubble, and features double Roman clay tiled roofs behind coped gables, as well as stone chimney stacks, one of which retains a traditional baffle. It is two storeys high with attics, and has 2 plus 2 bays, with the western half built at a lower level. The front of the house has hollow-chamfered mullioned windows in the fourth bay; a 3-light window sits above and a 4-light window below, both with labels. Upper bays 1 and 2 contain 3-light casement windows, seemingly of earlier design, while the lower windows are overgrown with vegetation. A small stair light and a 2-light mullioned window with a label are set into the west gable at lower level. Further mullioned windows and the main entrance are located at the rear of the farmhouse. The interior has not been inspected. A boundary wall, approximately 2.5 metres high and constructed of coursed rubble with thin coping, runs along the front of the property, marking the entire frontage. A cambered arched gateway with a studded boarded gate, reached by three steps (the two lower being segmental), is situated in the centre of the wall, contributing to both the setting of the house and the appearance of the street.
