Description
Walters Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse located on Queen Street, dating from the 17th century with later additions. It is constructed of Ham stone, primarily in ashlar, and features a Welsh slate roof with coped gables and stone slab chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and four bays, with hollow-chamfer mullioned windows consisting of 2, 2, 3, and 3 lights above, and 2, 3, 4, and 4 lights below. The lower windows are paired under common labels. To the right of the second bay, there is a 20th-century door set in a reconstructed stone porch topped with a shallow hipped metal roof.
Attached to the west gable is a later two-storey building with a hipped slate roof, where the west end wall is angled to fit the roadside boundary. This extension features a three-light casement window on the first floor on the south side, and a boarded door in a plain opening on the west angle, which is accessed by one step. Above this door is a semi-circular-arched sash window, now partly covered. The north wall has two segmental-arched 12-pane sash windows, suggesting that this area was used as a meeting room.
Adjoining this extension is a boundary wall about 2 metres high, made of cut and squared Ham stone with thin coping. It includes a small cast-iron gate with fleurs-de-lys finials opposite the door, enhancing the setting of the farmhouse and contributing to the streetscape.
